“Romanian transmission system operator is leading region to clean, secure energy transition”: Transelectrica Honored as International Partner of the Year.
The United States Energy Association (USEA) has named Transelectrica the 2024 International Partner of the Year for its pivotal role in driving clean and secure energy transitions across Southeast Europe. Gheorghe Visan, Energy Market Division Director, received the award in a ceremony held in Washington, DC, on May 30.
Romania has transformed from a recipient of USAID support to a European Union leader. Transelectrica, the country’s transmission system operator, now helps neighboring nations achieve similar energy progress, fostering economic growth and reducing reliance on hostile energy imports.
“Romania has become a solid provider of energy solutions,” emphasized Cristian Gaginsky, Deputy Chief of Mission for the Romanian Embassy, underlining the significance of this achievement. “This award is a testament to Transelectrica’s accomplishments and Romania’s leadership.”
Transelectrica’s journey, which commenced with the support of USAID and USEA in 1992, has propelled them to a pivotal role in regional network planning. Their influence extends beyond Romania; they have also played a significant part in supporting the integration of Ukrainian and Moldovan electricity networks with the EU. This has enhanced Moldova’s energy security and underscored Transelectrica’s regional impact and influence.
