Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja announced that Romania is set to add 10,000 MW of solar and wind energy over the next 3-5 years, alongside 3,500 MW in modernized gas plants. This ambitious expansion was unveiled at the P-TECC ministerial meeting in Bucharest, highlighting Romania’s commitment to energy security, economic competitiveness, and environmental protection.
Minister Burduja emphasized, “Energy is at the center of our lives, fueling prosperity and living standards. With substantial support from the EU and our energy sector partners, Romania will significantly boost its renewable energy capacity. We’ve already invested 1.5 billion euros in our networks.”
Innovation is also a key focus, with the Doicesti small modular reactor project entering a new feasibility study phase. This project represents a bold step forward, converting an old coal-fired plant into a modern SMR facility, aiming for completion by 2029.
High-ranking representatives from the public and private energy sectors gathered at the Palace of Parliament for the fifth P-TECC meeting, organized by the US Department of Energy, the Romanian Ministry of Energy, and the Atlantic Council. The discussions centered on industrial policy’s role in achieving transatlantic energy security and climate goals.
Romania is poised for a transformative journey in renewable energy, driven by courage, innovation, and international cooperation.
