President Klaus Iohannis has officially promulgated the Law on offshore wind energy, setting the stage for a new era of sustainable electricity production in Romania.

This landmark legislation establishes the essential framework for implementing electricity generation projects from offshore wind resources, emphasizing principles of non-discrimination, fair competition, and integrated pollution prevention and control.

Key provisions of the law empower the Ministry of Energy to conduct expert studies, identify offshore perimeters for concession, and oversee the exploration, construction, and operation of offshore wind power plants. Additionally, the ministry will develop a state aid scheme and ensure compliance with concession contracts.

Within three months, the Ministry of Energy will kickstart procedures for expert studies, paving the way for the exploration and development of offshore wind power plants.

This law marks a significant step towards harnessing Romania’s renewable energy potential and transitioning towards a cleaner, more sustainable future. This legislation will positively impact our energy landscape and environmental goals!
