According to government sources consulted by Economedia, the Romanian government plans to allocate funds from the modernization fund to ensure that investors building photovoltaic and wind parks in Romania can have up to 25% storage capacity by 2027.
The Ministry of Energy has already announced that it is preparing a state aid scheme with a half-billion-euro budget to finance energy storage investments. Minister Sebastian Burduja, speaking at a conference organized by the Intelligent Energy Association, stated that Romania’s storage needs are 4,000 MWh, according to data provided by Transelectrica’s dispatcher.
The plan is for batteries to cover half of this requirement and pumped-storage hydropower plants to cover the other half. The ministry is also preparing another storage scheme from the transition fund, with a budget of half a billion euros.
However, this scheme must be approved by the European Commission through DG Competition.
