John Kerry, the US Presidential Envoy for Climate, is set to journey to Bucharest this week to participate in the Three Seas Initiative Summit, as announced by the Department of State. The Summit’s primary focus is the advancement of transport, energy, and digital infrastructure connections among European countries situated between the Baltic, Adriatic, and Black Seas.
Annually, the Summit convenes representatives from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Romania, and Bulgaria.
During his visit to Bucharest, Kerry is expected to emphasize the significance of an accelerated transition to clean energy in fortifying energy security and resilience in Central and Eastern Europe. He will also highlight the potential of new, secure, and safe nuclear technologies, including Romania’s prominent role in pioneering the construction of Europe’s first small modular reactor (SMR).
